There are a few things worth knowing about how TheTweaks operates before you read another word we publish. We earn money through affiliate links and, occasionally, through sponsored content placements. Some products we review arrive for free. We link out constantly to sites we do not control. And while we work hard to be accurate, we are not perfect.
None of that should be hidden. This page puts it all in one place.

An affiliate link looks identical to any other link on the page. The difference is in the URL which contains a tracking code that tells the retailer or platform the sale came from us. If you complete a purchase after clicking, we receive a referral commission. You pay the same price regardless. NO ADDITIONAL COST.

Every page on thetweaks.com that contains affiliate links carries a disclosure statement at the top of the article, before the content begins. Best Picks pages and product comparison guides carry especially prominent disclosures because virtually every link on those pages is an affiliate link.
We do not bury disclosures in footers, print them in grey text designed to disappear, or toggle them behind a click. They are at the top, in plain language, before you read anything.
A higher commission does not earn a product a higher score. Paying us more does not move a product to the top of a Best Picks list. Here is the full picture of what our affiliate relationships do not affect:
The affiliate relationship is with the retailer or network, not with the brand being reviewed. Brands do not know in advance what we will conclude about their products.
News articles, policy analysis, research coverage, and investigative pieces contain no affiliate links. Those sections exist to inform. We keep them clean.

The line is clear: did a brand pay for the content or the placement? If yes, it is labeled. If not, it is editorial, regardless of whether it links to their product.
Sponsored content carries one of the following labels, placed at the top of the page before any article content begins:
Labels appear before the content. Not at the bottom after you have already read it.
What a sponsorship buys: A clearly labeled placement on a credible tech publication. Access to an engaged readership. That’s it.
What it does not buy: Any influence over review scores or editorial rankings. The ability to suppress or alter our honest assessments of their products. Prior review of non-sponsored editorial content. Guaranteed positive coverage of any kind.
A brand running a sponsored placement and a brand that has never given us a dollar are treated identically in our editorial process. The commercial side of the business and the editorial side operate separately. Advertising spend does not earn preferential coverage.
The FTC’s Endorsement Guides require that any material connection between a publisher and a brand — including payment, free products, or other consideration that could affect how readers interpret the content should be disclosed clearly and conspicuously. We comply with this across every format we publish.
Specifically, that means: labels on articles, labels on newsletter placements, #ad and #sponsored on social posts, and disclosure of free products in every review where they apply. If you ever see something on TheTweaks that looks like it should be labeled and is not, tell us at editor@thetweaks.com. That would be a mistake, and we would fix it immediately.
Some products we review were provided by manufacturers or developers at no cost, either as loaned units or as samples we keep. This is common practice across tech publishing, and we disclose it every time.
The typical disclosure at the top of a review reads: ‘The [product] was provided by [Brand] for review purposes.’ That line matters. It is context you deserve before reading our conclusions.
Receiving something for free does not change our methodology or our scores. We have given low scores to products sent specifically for review. We have published critical assessments of brands that also advertise on the site. A free unit does not purchase a favorable outcome, and we do not treat it as one.
We source our reporting carefully, cross-reference claims against primary documents and verified journalism, and run an editorial review on everything before it publishes. We try hard to be right.
Technology moves fast, though. Prices change. Products get updated mid-cycle. Software changes its tier structure without notice. A spec that was accurate when we published may be outdated by the time you read it.
We update articles when we become aware of material changes, but we cannot guarantee real-time accuracy across every piece on the site. Before making a purchase based on a price or product specification we cite, verify it directly with the retailer or developer.
Spotted an error? Email editor@thetweaks.com. We correct mistakes promptly and add a dated correction notice to the article. Nothing gets quietly edited without disclosure.
