The company Google introduced Agentic AI in Search at Google I/O 2026. Indeed, this improvement is considered to be one of the most outstanding developments made in the field of search systems because it changes the way the search operates from providing information to taking actions.

In particular, the idea of introducing Agentic AI is making it possible for Search to obtain a set of features that would enable it to plan, choose, and execute multi-stage operations. This particular feature is in line with Google’s strategy of implementing Gemini-based intelligence into everyday use apps.

With Agentic AI, it will no longer be required for users to ask questions like, “What is the price of…?”, or “What steps do I have to undertake to…?”. On the contrary, Google Search will be transformed into a task manager capable of solving problems faced by the user.

What distinguishes Agentic AI from regular AI search?

Obviously, there are several important differences between these two approaches. However, the main one concerns users’ involvement in actions performed by the system. Before, it was necessary to give step-by-step instructions to make the system act according to the user’s intentions. However, now, the system itself can figure out what sort of steps need to be taken in order to achieve desired results.

For example, if the user tells Search, “Arrange an inexpensive travel to Istanbul”, the system will be able to check available flights, compare their prices, recommend a hotel and itinerary, etc., without additional instructions from the user’s side.

What innovations are associated with the use of Agentic AI?

Firstly, Google makes an attempt to change the approach to Search functioning from “query & response” to “goal & execution”. Therefore, the user is not going to carry out several searches anymore. It will be sufficient to express his or her intent verbally, and then AI will perform all subsequent operations for him/her.

Besides, Agentic AI allows the user to extend his or her intentions beyond simple queries and enables Search to deal with complex multi-stage workflows including comparing items during online shopping, analyzing and researching particular topics, etc. Agentic AI also lets users revise their output adding another dimension to interaction with Google’s system.

There is a whole bunch of innovations implemented into Agentic AI in Search. It is able to reason about a problem, understand different kinds of input (text, images, voice, documents), and thus integrate tasks of different modes but preserve their continuity at the same time.

Furthermore, being able to integrate into other Google products, Agentic AI obtains access to the email, Maps, and browsing histories of the user (only with permission).

Will Agentic AI replace regular search results?

Of course, Agentic AI will not substitute usual search results. Instead, it is going to become yet another layer of information added to the results pages. Hence, users will be able to receive both regular results and action plans.

TheTweaks Insight

Based on our observations at TheTweaks, it is safe to say that the implementation of Agentic AI should be seen as a significant progress made by Google in terms of execution rather than information availability in comparison with such innovations as Gemini 3.5, Gemini Omni, and even the recently made I/O 2026 update to Google Search. Overall, these three advancements form the path toward a highly advanced intelligent environment based on search, reasoning, and multimodal perception.

We see the dawn of the era of “AI execution layer”, where the user only has to state his intention to let Search fulfill the task through reasoning and executing actions behind the scenes. Due to the fast reasoning skills of Gemini 3.5, multimodal understanding of Gemini Omni, and task-oriented abilities of Agentic AI, we believe that Google Search experience may totally transform soon.

It seems obvious that such innovations impose new challenges to content providers. If the content does not provide sufficient information for performing certain actions, it may not be ranked appropriately in the future. Furthermore, Google appears to be moving toward building one intelligent search system powered by AI.
