The OmniBook 7 series would be a better choice if you want to edit 4K videos on a frequent basis or have a dedicated graphics card for your games. The integrated graphics of OmniBook 5 are capable of doing basic multi tasking but struggle a lot with heavy creativity.
As for the one mainstream OmniBook that I would recommend to book against this sale, OmniBook 5 would probably be the safest because of its balance of everyday usability, performance and price. It’s also been highlighted as being one of HP’s biggest 4th of July bargains this year.

HP doesn’t take the same sort of hard hit with its smaller, lighter chassis, however, as it does with the bigger 16-inch units so a 19% discount on a dedicated travel laptop is a lesser known offering in HP’s laptop summer sale.
If screen space is more important than mobility, such as if you’re frequently working in spreadsheets or having multiple document windows at the same time, a 14-inch screen will feel cramped quickly. Instead use the OmniBook 5 16-inch.
This is one that I would recommend to people who are looking for portability over screen size.
My Take: This is the only one that I would go out of the five to purchase if I were to replace my own travel computer. It’s difficult to beat with the battery life and weight at this price.
HP OmniBook 7 AI 16-ay0087nr is the standout HP AI laptop deal, if you are looking for a Next Generation AI laptop. The additions of NPU and Copilot+ to the standard lineup will put more on the bill of materials, and that’s why the Ryzen AI-powered OmniBooks tend to hold onto price better than the regular ones. That makes its 31% discount more compelling and offers more meaningful savings than an entry level laptop.
If you’re just using your computer daily for web browsing, streaming and emailing, you’re paying for horsepower you don’t use. These AI capabilities are helpful if you’re looking for the use of Windows Copilot+ experiences in the future, or the AI-assisted productivity features but they’re not the only reasons to purchase this laptop. I’d rather see buyers acquire this laptop for its faster NPU and the added headroom for multitasking, rather than just for the marketing.
A solid pick if you are using AI-driven workflows in your work life, not in theory.
My Take: As far as I’m concerned, this is the investment I would strongly recommend that tech-savvy users undertake right now not because AI-powered laptops are essential, but because this build is truly future proof and it’s not an early adopter’s price.
It’s not quite as AI heavy as the AI-powered OmniBook 7 but the configuration focuses on raw power instead of NPU features, higher processor speed and a greater thermal margin. It’s a smaller discount pool for HP to offer against as this tier is already direct competition to creator-focused laptops from other brands, making the 36% discount one of the more significant reductions in this whole HP OmniBook sale.
If you use the computer for casual email, document viewing, and streaming, you don’t need this much processor. You’ll be paying for thermal and performance headroom that you won’t ever use, the OmniBook 5 is a few hundred dollars cheaper in that regard.
I’d recommend the HP OmniBook 7 Laptop 16-az0097nr over the OmniBook 5 only if you regularly handle more workload than everyday browsing and office tasks.

The 16 inch OmniBook 5 has the overall best combination of key travel and deck stability for anyone typing emails and long documents. While the 14 inch NExt Generation AI offers a bit less key travel but a much smaller footprint. The OmniBook 7 AI is a close runner up with its key resistance, which some typists will favor.
The OmniBook 5 Next Gen AI 14-he0037nr and the OmniBook 7 AI 16-ay0087nr are the brightest and most colour accurate versions and both are easier to use outdoors or close to a bright window. The OmniBook 7 16-az0097nr is a middle-of-the-road performer when it comes to sustained cooling, performing well during long sessions. The OmniBook 5 16-inch is good, but with its relatively cool colour temperature.
