LG has jumped into the competition for the top outdoor party speaker in the form of the xboom Blast. The news was announced in the LG Corporation’s press release on August 10th by this new speaker. It’s dead easy to use, the xboom Blast is designed to be used for hours and hours of fun and music outdoors and then run back home without losing power. The Blast was introduced to the world along with other models of the xboom by the will. i.am lineup of speakers at CES 2026 back in January.
Now, LG has 4 xboom models available to buy the Stage 501, Mini, Rock and the new Blast. Every of these models has its own unique selling point and target customers in the market for portable speakers.
The most prominent thing about the Blast is its battery life. It has a 99Wh battery and plays music for up to 35 hours continuously. As you can see, it’s a vast improvement over the 10 hours of playing time offered by LG’s smaller models, Rock and Mini. Such an outstanding result changes the way you may want to use the speaker as you do not need to charge it all the time.
Another impressive feature of the Blast is its ability to produce good bass thanks to two 5.25-inch woofers and three passive radiators. This is clearly an outdoor type of device that’s designed more for backyard parties than just listening to music in the room.
The xboom Blast incorporates two features developed by LG, the AI Sound which adjusts the equalizer according to the type of content being played, and Space Calibration Pro which analyzes the acoustics of the environment where the speaker is located and adjusts the output according to it. Note that the second feature is available only in the premium LG’s Stage 501 model.
Durability is the key factor of the development of the Blast. Besides that, LG added ergonomics to the speaker’s design to make it easy to move around such as to the beach, camping site, backyard and anywhere music is required. The procedure is followed through all the generation of xboom speakers line; LG’s Rock has already cleared 7 military tests and is water and dust resistant (IP67).
In this particular instance, the xboom Blast is not like many speakers that might be found indoors. When batteries and drivers grow in size, portable party speakers have to combine their capabilities in terms of acoustic performance with durability and the capacity to be easily moved.
When put all of these together, we can take the assumption that LG views outdoor listening as a separate niche of its product lineup. It implies that LG does not see this use case as the second most important use case for a mobile phone or laptop, instead, it creates a dedicated entertainment device.
The xboom Blast speaker has AI Lighting, as always, which is highlighted by a multicoloured bar of LEDs, in sync with the sound. Therefore, the company makes this speaker the focus of the entire entertainment experience. Not to mention that, LG offers Auracast and multi-speaker connectivity for several xboom models with the ability to connect the speakers to expand the coverage area. As it’s apparent, in outdoor environments as compared to indoor settings this type of function can prove to be very useful.
Positionally the xboom Blast is where the small Rock and Mini’s from LG fit in between it and the Stage 501. If you’re looking for longer battery life and more bass than LG’s pocket speakers have to offer, but are not willing to invest in the Stage 501, the Blast is for you.
As such, the speaker’s location determines who will be buying the speaker. The xboom Blast owners will be giving up the portability of their speakers for battery and sound, while the Stage 501 buyers will be getting all of the device’s capabilities. In either case, the difference in battery life (10 hours and 35 hours respectively) shows it best.
The press release says the xboom Blast is now available for sale globally, but it doesn’t say when or where. Meanwhile, with AI technology to provide the basis for the functions and LG continuing to partner with will.i.am, the next issue is whether the features like the Space Calibration Pro will be available for the smaller xboom models in the near future, or be exclusive to the higher levels of speakers only.
Based on the specifications, xboom Blast appears to be LG’s best shot at creating a truly perfect outdoor speaker that offers excellent bass, a battery life of up to 35 hours, more features like AI Lighting and Auracast multi-speaker connectivity, and durability. But, LG hasn’t revealed the pricing and availability details. Plus, some features are only available on the top tier of the line, which the xboom Blast does not have. So, for now, until we can test it in real situations and get the prices, the xboom Blast is a viable option on paper.
