/ Meta and Reliance join forces to power the next generation

Meta has announced the launch of its first ever AI infrastructure project in India, in collaboration with Reliance Industries. The project, which has been officially unveiled today on June 10, 2026, will involve the construction of an AI driven data center in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
The company stated in its official press release that the decision to construct the AI enabled infrastructure in India comes in light of the country’s huge digital economy, technology ecosystem, and potential for future product development.
Moreover, the company mentioned the growing importance of India’s fast growing digital market for the future of Meta’s AI operations. By setting up the data center, Meta hopes to be able to provide its AI solutions and services more effectively in the country.
According to the press release, the new project will also strengthen the existing long standing relationship between Meta and Reliance. Over the years, the two companies have had many joint ventures and collaborations, starting from Meta’s multibillion dollar investment in Jio Platforms.
After working together in the enterprise technology space, the two partners also decided to team up in order to establish an AI infrastructure in the Indian subcontinent.
With the rise of generative AI models in recent times, the need for more computing resources and data centers has surged globally. In this regard, many technology giants are actively competing against each other by trying to acquire enough data centers for their AI models.
Currently, Meta has invested a lot in building its AI system and is actively planning to integrate the same with its platform applications, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and future AI products. Given the growing workload for Meta’s AI products, the company needs additional data centers.
India has been growing in terms of its technology sector and digital population, making the country an ideal place for building AI infrastructure. Additionally, with India being one of the fastest growing markets for Meta, it made sense to establish an AI infrastructure in the Indian subcontinent.
According to the agreement, the first phase of the project will consist of constructing a data center with 168 MW capacity. The capacity could be increased in future phases, depending upon the needs of Meta.
The data center infrastructure will be created and managed by Reliance Industries, while Meta will lease the capacity to use in its AI solutions. It is worth mentioning that the entire project will be powered by renewable energy sources and will use desalinated seawater in its cooling process.
Additionally, in recent times, Meta has made multiple energy infrastructure deals in India to fulfill the rising demand for electricity from its AI products and services.
Jamnagar is chosen as the location for building AI infrastructure due to the presence of one of the biggest data center campuses in the area. This is because Reliance Industries is also building one of the largest data center complexes in Jamnagar.
Additionally, with plenty of energy sources available in the region, it makes Jamnagar an ideal location for establishing new data centers.
Overall, the new project is yet another reason for India’s emergence as a rising player in the space of AI and AI related infrastructure.
As per the predictions of the industry experts, the Indian data center market is going to grow rapidly over the coming decade in order to accommodate the growing demand for cloud services and digital transformations.
As far as Reliance Industries is concerned, its partnership with Meta would help the former firm in strengthening its vision of being the leading AI infrastructure company. Moreover, in addition to the partnership, Reliance has also invested billions of dollars in developing infrastructure for the future AI products.
The deal might also encourage other technology companies to enter the Indian market by building AI infrastructure.
