Samsung Unpacked 2026: The Galaxy Future Has Arrived

Samsung and Google just dropped two major hardware reveals into the same week. Tech release announcements typically roll out one at a time, but sometimes the calendar aligns and two giants meet for the same news cycle and that’s what is happening now. Google confirmed its “Made by Google” event in New York yesterday and teased the Pixel 11 series and a new Pixel Watch. 

Today Samsung responded by announcing the date, location and teaser promotion for its next “Galaxy Unpacked”. The back to back unveils have made the first half of July the season of big tech launches and this makes the gadget reviewers genuinely excited again. 

Samsung Sets the Stage: July 22 in London

Samsung has confirmed the date for its next Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22nd 2026, in London. This is the first time ever that Samsung has held an Unpacked event in the capital of the UK rather than its usual rotation of Seoul (South Korea), New York or San Francisco. The livestream will begin at 2 PM BST (9 AM EDT / 6 AM PT) and be hosted on Samsung.com, the Samsung Newsroom and YouTube. Registration is already open and early sign-ups will be rewarded with gift cards, trade-in benefits and a raffle of free Galaxy devices prior to the pre-order window.

Samsung’s chosen tag line “A New Shape Unfolds” drops a major hint. Samsung’s teaser images display a ticket being printed and then splitting apart into a shorter, wider rectangle, a clear nod to a wider screen foldable that tech rumors have been the rumor mill for months.

Three Foldables, Not Two

It looks like that this will be the first Unpacked in which Samsung is releasing three book-shaped foldables at the same time. Leaks point to:

• Galaxy Z Fold 8: the rumored wide-fold phone with a larger cover screen that would close the gap between the Galaxy Fold series and a regular smartphone.
• Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra: in many ways a spiritual successor to last year’s Fold 7, retaining the same slim and tall design that people know and love.
• Galaxy Z Flip 8: The rumored device is going to come with a slimmer design (around 13.2mm when folded up), it’s going to be lighter in build (around 180g), and the rumored redesigned hinge is going to all but remove the crease that’s been a hallmark of the Flip line since 2020

Chip rumours suggest that there’s a regional shift in the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, with Qualcomm’s silicon going to units in the US, Canada, Australia, Japan and South Africa, whereas the Exynos silicon is being used for European and Korean devices. None of these have been officially confirmed by Samsung at this point, but the leak seems to have become detailed enough to sketch out comparison charts by reviewers.

Watches, and a Wildcard: Smart Glasses

Foldables are not the only device expected to be revealed in the show. Both the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 are expected to be announced, with the latter being a much upgraded model that is supposed to feature a battery cell that will be about a third larger than the original.

The big news? Galaxy Glasses. Samsung and Google revealed their take on smart glasses powered by Android XR earlier this year, and it should be ready to go public on July 22  in the form of an audio version with smart glasses made by Gentle Monster and Warby Parker and an always-on Gemini assistant powered by camera-based contextual intelligence. A mere display of cameras, mics and speakers, all looking right at Meta’s Ray-Ban line. While a retail rollout is slated for the fall, a first-hand look this month would be a real coup for any person covering the space.

Why the Timing Matters

Samsung making this move to have the event in London is not just about changing location. There is strategy involved. With Europe coming up as the most competitive and premium foldable phone market, Samsung launching their devices two months before the rumored Apple foldable iPhone has given them a huge advantage.

Then of course there’s Google in the middle of it all. Google’s Pixel 11 event on August 12 is only three weeks after Samsung’s Unpacked event, and both the two biggest names in Android hardware are about to introduce flagships to the market simultaneously this summer, competing for the same headlines, and in the same ways, for the same underlying tech, considering Samsung and Google’s recent joint effort on Android XR smart glasses.

This is as good as it gets for first hand reviewers: two big ecosystems refreshing their full hardware lineup within a month of each other, providing consumers with a legitimate chance to compare them rather than a slow drip of updates. Comparisons such as Fold 8 vs. Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Glasses vs. the new Meta Ray-Bans, Pixel 11 vs. whatever Samsung’s offering in London will be the main topic of tech coverage in August.

Other than the date, location and tag-line, nothing official is confirmed by Samsung and these specs listed above are merely a good guess. Since the registration period has now opened, a preview video has been published and even Google’s own event was secured 3 weeks later, the second half of 2026 has turned out to be one of the best periods for the smartphone industry in years.
